It was a fall foliage trip for the Big Red as they traveled to the home of the Green Doors in Deerfield, MA. It was Deerfield's Parent's Weekend and it was fun to have an energetic crowd. It was a very even first half with both teams having moments of quality play.
Asun Zhu '26 played a nice ball to Will Iller '26 for an early chance. Pat Cooley '25 found space in the right flank and there was some excellent stepping by backs Pat Ricca '26 and
Blake Truchon '26 to put pressure on the Deerfield defense. Defensively, Randy Fu '25 anchored the SPS defense holding a tight line. Keeper
Kristof Lovegren '25 came off his line well to clear several dangerous through balls. At the 6:38 mark, the Big Green drew first blood as they found space at the top of the box and slotted the ball home.
The second half saw much of the same even play. The Big Red's best chance came in the final third of the half when Cooley beat his man wide and served a skillful ball to Iler who headed his chance just wide. Deerfield came back right away and made it a 2-0 game with a long shot that snuck just under the bar. Credit SPS for not letting up. With just three minutes to play a foul in the Deerfield box gave Cooley another pk opportunity. Pat is now three for three this fall from the spot and the game was 2 -1. Led by tri-captain Carter "Never Say Quit" Corbett '25 the Big Red played hard over the final minutes but were not able to equalize.
SPS heads back to the training ground on Monday looking to continue to improve before heading to the Berwick School on Wednesday.
Go Big Red!
