Baseball grabs win over New Hampton

In an exciting showdown that saw multiple lead changes, St. Paul's managed to claw back from an early deficit to secure a narrow 3-2 victory over New Hampton School in a tightly contested baseball game.

The game started off quietly until the top of the third inning when Finn Glidden of New Hampton School smashed a solo home run to left field, igniting the scoring and putting his team ahead. However, the lead didn't last long as St. Paul's responded in the bottom half of the same inning. Daniel Sullivan stepped up and delivered a crucial single that drove in a run, tying the game at one apiece.

As the innings progressed, tension mounted. New Hampton School took the lead once again in the top of the fifth inning when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving them a slim 2-1 advantage. But the lead was short-lived; the bottom of the fifth saw St. Paul's fighting back fiercely. Theo Schneible came through with a clutch single, driving in two runs and flipping the score to 3-2 in favor of St. Paul's.

On the mound, Carter Corbett shone brightly for St. Paul's. The southpaw pitched four strong innings, allowing just one run and striking out three. His performance was crucial in keeping New Hampton School's batters at bay at critical moments. Finn Glidden, despite his efforts at the plate, took the loss for New Hampton School, allowing three runs over four and two-thirds innings, though only one was earned. Daniel Sullivan not only contributed with his bat but also secured the save, showcasing his versatility.

Offensively, Schneible led St. Paul's with two RBIs, and along with teammates Sam Ekstrand, Eoin Sheehy, and Sullivan, contributed significantly to the team's hitting. St. Paul's also demonstrated aggressive baserunning, stealing five bases throughout the game, including two by Sullivan.

For New Hampton School, Michael Athansoulas, Glidden, and Dom Petkus each managed a hit, with Derek Helledy joining Glidden in driving in runs. Despite their efforts, they fell just short.

St. Paul's next challenge will be a road game against Holderness on Saturday, where they hope to carry forward their momentum from this thrilling victory in the last regular season game.
