In the 85
th minute of a 0 – 0 game the host, Brooks School, earned a penalty kick and scored the lone goal of the contest. The Big Red began the game keeping their defensive shape as the Brooks side applied pressure but were not able to get quality chances on net.
Blake Truchon'26,
Carter Corbett '25, AJ Zoltowski '27and
Gavin Nestler '25 cleared dangerous balls and goalkeeper
Leo Colinet '27 made several early saves and cutout some crosses that could have caused problems. 6
th former,
Kristof Lovegren '25, came in midway through the half after a collision caused Colinet to depart. Pat Cooley '25 had the best chance for SPS in the first half when his feisty defensive pressure created a turnover in the Brooks backfield. Pat then saw the keeper out and just missed a long-range shot.
The second half saw the Big Red have better possession of the ball and create more time and space by getting the ball wide. Williiam Iller '26 pushed hard up top and made the Brooks defense work hard. Credit Brooks for having a technically strong side and the Big Red for their strong work rate for 90 minutes with great second efforts and support of each other all afternoon.
St. Paul's has a quick turnaround as after training tomorrow the squad travels to the Berkshire School in western Massachusetts Saturday for a 1:30 tilt against another perennially strong side.
Go Big Red!
