SPS hosted to the KUA Wildcats in the first round of the Lakes Region Tournament. The Big Red came out fast scoring on the first shift of the evening and did not look back Three goals in the first period by
Erin Flaherty,
Madeline Allen on the power play and
Liza Demain got the Big Red going; helpers from
Chelsea Bell,
Malin Wilde and
Cadence Crowley. The puck movement was quick and sharp all over the ice, particular shout-out to the D- corps, as SPS put 20 shots on net. Julia Allesandro was strong in the Big Red net with several critical stops early on in the action.
Julia Alessandro made 21 saves over the course of the contest on her way to a shutout performance.
The pace slowed a bit in the second with the Big Red increasing their lead by just one.
Maealie Glanzer scored short-handed with an impressive shot to the upper corner with but 26 clicks left in the period. Credit KUA for their hard work and tight defending throughout the second. The third period saw the Big Red close out the scoring with a back door goal by
Madeline Allen from a nice pass from
Grace White and an
Erin Flaherty finish off a
Chelsea Bell feed.
A solid team performance by the Big Red tonight allows them to set their sights on the Championship game tomorrow when the squad hosts the #2 seed New Hampton Huskies who beat Vermont Academy this evening. Game time is 4:00 and we hope to see you at the Hockey Center.
