  • In addition to her work on the diamond, Coach Boylan teaches Molecular Biology and serves as the Director of the Applied Science & Engineering Program. 
  • She previously coached varsity girls basketball and nordic.

Coaching Highlights at SPS:

  • It has been exciting to see the SPS Softball program grow over the last decade under Coach Boylan’s leadership. A perennial powerhouse in New England softball, the program competes at the highest level and is home to many college-bound athletes. 

Awards and Honors:

  • SPS awards: 
    • Form of 1973 Mentor Fellowship (2017 & 2024), awarded to faculty members to encourage and reward the inspired, passionate teachers and mentors of St. Paul’s students
      •  Will attend the 2025 Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma as well as attend practices and games at an ACC school this spring break
    • 2021 Nominee for Northwestern University Distinguished Secondary School Teacher Award (DSTA)

Coaching Resume:

  • Been coaching Varsity softball since spring of 2016 and became head coach spring of 2017. 
  • Since she took over as head coach in 2016, the program has steadily grown into one of the premiere softball programs in New England. Her career coaching record at St. Paul’s is 78-43.
  • During the 2024 season, the Pelicans touted a 15-5 record and were the runners up in the Big East Tournament. 
  • Furthermore, multiple athletes have gone on or are committed to play at the collegiate level, including in the NESCAC, ECAC, NEWMAC and ACC.

Education and Certifications:

  • Sarah Boylan graduated cum laude from Middlebury College, earning a B.A. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. In addition, she earned her Masters of Liberal Arts in Biology from Harvard Extension School, completing her thesis at The Harvard Stem Cell Institute on the molecular signaling mechanism of TGF-b ligands. At her graduation from Harvard, Coach Boylan was awarded the Thomas Small Prize based on academic achievement and character.

Athletic Career:

  • Coach Boylan played four years of NEPSAC softball at Phillips Academy Andover where she won the Wennick Award for exemplifying the spirit of Andover softball.
  • At Middlebury, she was a four-year starter and senior captain for the softball team, winning the NESCAC championship in 2011.

Coaching Philosophy:

  • Coach Boylan is focused on both creating a strong team culture and developing student skills to support aspirations to play at the collegiate level. Furthermore, Coach Boylan believes that sports can open doors to an excellent education and subsequent career opportunities.
