Boys Swimming Hosts first ever Varsity Swim Meet at SPS

St. Paul's School Hosts Historic First Varsity Swim Meet Against Milton Academy

January 11, 2025 – Concord, NH

In what was a historic moment for St. Paul's School, the institution hosted its first-ever varsity swim meet at home, marking the inaugural season of the varsity swim and diving team. The meet against Milton Academy showcased impressive performances from both teams, though Milton ultimately came out on top with a combined score of 169-134.

Girls 200-Yard Medley Relay In the opening event, the St. Paul's girls' team of Angelina Li,  Jennifer Yung-Coak , captain Jacqueline Pan, and Laing Supple put up a solid effort, finishing second to Milton with a time of 2:09.97.

Boys 200-Yard Medley Relay On the boys' side, the St. Paul's relay team, consisting of Wrenn Ragsdale, Jayden ChengTyler Jefferson, and Diego Gonzalez finished second place with a time of 1:57.50.

Individual Highlights Several St. Paul's swimmers had standout performances throughout the meet:

  • Angelina Li continued her strong form by placing second both in the girls' 100-yard backstroke and in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.33   She rounded off her four races by helping the St. Paul's 400-yard freestyle relay team to a second place finish.
  • Jayden Cheng led the boys team, winning the 100 yard-freestyle with a time of 52.75 and taking second in the 100 yard-breaststroke with a time of 1:06.53  behind Alex Ning from Milton who posted a 1:05.41.

Relay Races Dominate the Finish The relay events proved to be a pivotal part of the meet. St. Paul's boys' 200-yard freestyle relay team, featuring Ragsdale, Jefferson, Cheng, and captain William Su secured a victory with a time of 1:41.24, nearly half a pool-length ahead of Milton Academy's 1:47.09 finish. However, Milton Academy regained momentum in the 400-yard freestyle relay, winning the final boys' event with a time of 4:07.63, while St. Paul's finished second at 4:26.47.

On the girls' side, Milton Academy claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay, with St. Paul's teams finishing in second and third. The top St. Paul's relay squad, composed of Jennifer Yung-Coak, Li, Jacqueline Pan, and Laing Supple, posted a respectable time of 4:35.68.

Final Scores Milton Academy emerged victorious in both the girls' and boys' categories. The girls' team from Milton Academy outscored St. Paul's 96-65, while the boys' competition was closer, with Milton earning 73 points to St. Paul's 69. Despite the loss, St. Paul's swimmers demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship throughout the meet. With notable individual achievements and strong relay performances, the team looks forward to building on this experience in future competitions.

Up Next: St. Paul's will prepare for their next meet against Groton, where they hope to capitalize on their strengths and continue this amazing momentum the new program has.
