Third-Inning Surge Powers St. Paul's Past Brewster Academy
A massive third inning lifted St. Paul's to a dominant 14-0 victory over Brewster Academy on Wednesday at TBD.
Leading 2-0 after two innings, St. Paul's exploded for 10 runs in the third. Dorothy Ricard and Shay Powell each singled to drive in runs, followed by RBI singles from Morgan Barbossa and Jade Hill. Dakota Martinez and Heather Cotter delivered back-to-back doubles, each plating two runs, and Ricard capped the inning with an RBI double.
St. Paul's first got on the board in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch. They padded their lead in the second inning as Oyinna Ekeh's groundout and Jillian Fugere's bases-loaded walk each brought in a run.
Jelina Medina earned the win for St. Paul's, throwing two innings of one-hit, shutout ball with five strikeouts and no walks. Samantha Lynch was stellar in relief, striking out eight over three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit.
Brewster's Yager took the loss, allowing 14 runs—only four earned—on 10 hits over four innings, with three strikeouts and five walks.
At the plate, Martinez, Ricard, and Barbossa each tallied two hits for St. Paul's. Martinez and Cotter each drove in two runs. St. Paul's also showcased patience at the plate, drawing five walks, and were flawless defensively, committing no errors. Maren Comey led the defense with 13 putouts.
Tremblay and Collins each had a hit for Brewster.
St. Paul's will be back in action on Friday when they host Tilton.
