SPS traveled south to Brookline, MA on a balmy Wednesday afternoon to take on a talented Dexter-Southfield side. Things looked bright when just 5 minutes into the contest
Grace White received a pass from
Maealie Glanzer and rifled a shot past the Southfield netminder. Southfield came back hard and were able to get one of their own three minutes later. The home team did well to bottle up the Big Red in zone with their defensemen pinching and a very high work rate. Southfield would score what would become the eventual game winner with 5 minutes to play in the first. Throughout the first two periods
Paige MacPhee was super in the SPS net; stopping several breakaways and getting to the backside of her net to stop numerous quality chances on odd-man rushes. Midway through the second Southfield made it 3 – 1 with an impressive tip from a point shot that found the back of the net.
The third period saw the Big Red demonstrate heart as Southfield continued to press.
Paige MacPhee continued her excellent play to give SPS a chance to climb back into this one. Two late power plays over the final 8 minutes of the contest increased the Big Red chances. They got shots on net and followed with grit and determination. Kudos to the Southfield goaltender who moved well and left few second chances for the visitors.
SPS heads to Phillips Andover on Saturday for 3:30 puck drop and another competitive contest with a talented side.
Go Big Red!
