The Huskies of New Hampton travelled to Millville and the Gordon Rink for a Lakes Region match up. As they have done so often this season, the Big Red got on the board first. Two minutes in, a good decision by
Maealie Glanzer with a quick indirect out of the zone, allowed
Madeline Allen to use her speed to beat the New Hampton defenseman to the puck at the endboards. A sharp pass to the front to a hardworking
Maealie Glanzer and it was 1 – 0. New Hampton is a hardworking club, and they rallied with two goals of their own and held the lead until there were four minutes left in the second period.
Cadence Crowley would take advantage of a Big Red powerplay and deftly snuck out of the corner to the front and lifted a crisp backhander to the roof of the net. The second period would end 2 – 2 and the Big Red was feeling good about their battling back and knew they would need to be even better in the end.
They were.
Kelsey MacPherson would give the Big Red the lead for good at 11:52 of the third with a "sick" move to her backhand and a sweet bar down shot. Two minutes later it would be a clean breakout from
Emma Burke to
Liza Demain who moved the puck to
Tess Mulkerron for a great shot to the corner. Less than two minutes later it would be 5 – 2 when
Kelsey MacPherson moved the puck from low to high to
Jade Hill whose wrister got to the net leaving a nice rebound for
Chelsea Bell to calmly finish. Allen would close out the scoring and the win after another sharp breakout – an early pass from
Madelyn Humber to
Grace White who placed a perfect pass into the path of
Madeline Allen who finished the combination with a backhand shot of her own.
Paige MacPhee earned the win in the SPS net. Well done, SPS.
The Big Red travels Marion, MA to take on the Tabor Seawolves on Friday night as they Pink the Rink in the Fight Against Breast Cancer. Hope to see you there to support a great cause.
Go Big Red!
