On Saturday, St. Paul's School and Choate Rosemary Hall settled into a true pitcher's duel, with neither lineup able to break through for five tense innings. In the circle,
Jelina Medina was in complete command, working efficiently and keeping Choate's hitters off balance as the game moved briskly along without a run on the board.
The breakthrough finally came in the top of the sixth.
Lucy Kaiser sparked the rally with a double down the left field line, putting the Big Red in scoring position.
Jillian Fugere followed with a single up the middle to bring home the first run, and Medina drove a double to right that extended the lead. By the time the inning ended, St. Paul's had pushed across three runs.
Medina took care of the rest. The right-hander went the distance, allowing just four hits and one run over seven innings while striking out nine. Behind her, the Big Red played a clean, composed defensive game, not committing a single error.
Adriana Torres anchored the effort in the field with nine chances, while Kaiser added pressure on the bases with two steals as part of a three-steal day for the Big Red.
Choate managed to scratch across a run, but Medina never let the momentum shift. St. Paul's closed out the 3–1 win with the same poise that had defined the game from the first pitch.
The Big Red return home on Wednesday afternoon, where they'll take on Brooks.
