St. Paul's School

Our Program

The St. Paul's School crew teams compete in the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association against some of the best school teams in New England. This level of competition will help you grow as an athlete and prepare you for the next steps in your sports journey. Our coaching staff is experienced, knowledgeable and passionate about helping athletes develop, and we pride ourselves on building strong bonds within the team. You'll find a supportive and encouraging environment within the crew program, where you can grow not only as an athlete, but also as a person.

Facilities

Our School offers state-of-the-art rowing facilities, including the Crumpacker Boathouse, where you'll find an extensive fleet of shells and oars; a four-lane,1,500-meter racecourse on Turkey Pond; and indoor rowing tanks, all designed to support your development as a rower.

Coaching

Head Coach Colin Campbell is an accomplished rowing coach who has served as coach of the US Junior Men's Development Camp (1997 and 1998) and the US Junior Men's Sweep Team (2002-10). As head coach of the US Junior Team, he guided the crew to the bronze medal in 2008 and the gold medal in 2010 at the World Junior Rowing Championships.

Coach Campbell first taught at St. Paul's from 1986 to 1994 and returned to the St. Paul's faculty in the fall of 2010. He attended Phillips Academy Andover and Yale University and rowed for both institutions. He spent the 1990-91 academic year completing graduate work at Dartmouth College. Coach Campbell also holds the Form of 1965 Fund for Chair in Humanities at SPS.

SPS alumnus Nick Rusher '18 won the bronze medal in the US men's eight at the Paris Olympics in 2024. Many alumni have gone on to row at Yale, Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Colby and Bates.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
