Our Program
A Player-Centered Environment

The St. Paul's School boys soccer team competes against the top prep programs in New England, and many of our alumni have gone on to play at the college level, particularly in the NESCAC and Ivy League. We aim to develop character, technical skills and tactical knowledge through the creation of a player-centered culture and learning environment that helps bring out the best in each of our athletes. While players often participate in other activities in the Winter and Spring Terms, many compete in local club environments in the spring and summer to continue their development.

Coaching

Head Coach Daniel Toulson joined St. Paul's School in the fall of 2023 after spending two seasons as the head men's soccer coach at Emerson College in Boston. In 2022, his first full season as head coach at Emerson, Coach Toulson led the Lions in a historic turnaround, placing second in the NEWMAC conference and earning an appearance in the championship match, following nine seasons in last place. Coach Toulson coached three all-region and three all-conference selections during that season and his coaching staff was honored as the conference and regional staff of the year. As a player, Coach Toulson represented the New Zealand U19 team and played collegiately for Kenyon College.

Facilities

Our home field is Hunt Field, one of the top playing surfaces in New England. This Kentucky bluegrass field sits prominently at the front of campus and hosts Big Red games each fall. Each team also has access to three additional grass fields: Brinley, Pillsbury and Hitchcock, as well as the Bogle-Lechner artificial turf field. Our student-athletes also utilize the School's fully equipped Athletic and Fitness Center, which includes an indoor turf field, a fully equipped cardiovascular room and a state-of-the-art weight training room. Three full-time athletic trainers are on hand to help students stay fit and return to play.

Beyond SPS

St. Paul's soccer alumni have gone on to play in highly competitive collegiate environments. Our training program is structured to give our players the technical, tactical and psychosocial skillset to make an immediate impact at the next level. In recent years, our former players have attended highly selective and nationally ranked NCAA Division I and Division III programs.

Become Big Red. The color will suit you.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
