Our Program

The St. Paul's School lacrosse program plays against many of the top programs throughout New England and competes each season for the Lakes Region Championship. The team reached its first Lakes Region League playoff in 2023 and repeated the feat in 2024. In 2025, the team won its first Lakes Region Championship title. The program has produced USA Lacrosse post-season award winners in each of the last three seasons, including two All-Americans, two Academic All-Americans and one Bob Scott Award winner. There are currently 13 former Big Red lacrosse players competing in college.

Coaching

Head Coach Joe Bernier assumed responsibility for the program in 2025 and promptly guided the team to its first-ever Lakes Region title. With 20 years of coaching experience, Coach Bernier has a track record of identifying and developing talent and has guided more than 35 student-athletes to NCAA lacrosse careers. Coach Bernier was named the Northern New England Lacrosse League Coach of the Year after the 2025 season.

The coaching staff also includes former high school and college All-Americans with specialists on defense, goalie and midfield. The staff has a wealth of experience at both the high school and college levels. They are committed to building on the team's successes and helping each player achieve their full potential both on and off the field.

Beyond SPS

St. Paul's lacrosse alumni have gone on to play in highly competitive collegiate environments. Our training program is structured to give our players the technical, tactical and psychosocial skillset to make an immediate impact at the next level. In recent years, our former players have attended highly selective and nationally ranked NCAA Division I and Division III programs.

Become Big Red. The color will suit you.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
