Coaching

Head Coach Derek Johnson joined St. Paul's School in the fall of 2011 as associate dean of admissions, director of multicultural recruitment and head coach of the girls' soccer team. Previously, Coach Johnson coached the New Hampshire Technical Institute men's soccer team to three Yankee Small College Conference titles in four years and a place in the USCAA National Championship game.

After receiving a B.S. in business administration from the University of Maine at Machias (UMM), where he played basketball and soccer, Coach Johnson began a professional basketball career in Europe, winning the British Basketball League Championship in 1994 with the Worthing Bears, followed by the National Basketball League Championship in 1995 with the Croydon Swifts. He returned to coach his alma mater's women's basketball team in 1996. In 2000, he coached the University of Maine at Fort Kent men's basketball team to a top 25 NAIA national ranking. In 2015 he was inducted into the UMM's Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of the 1991 team that won the NAIA District 5 Championships and played in the National Championships at Kemper Arena in Kansas City.

Facilities

Our home field is Hunt Field, one of the top playing surfaces in New England. This Kentucky bluegrass field sits prominently at the front of campus and hosts Big Red games each fall. Each team also has access to three additional grass fields: Brinley, Pillsbury and Hitchcock, as well as the Bogle-Lechner artificial turf field. Our student-athletes also utilize the School's fully equipped Athletic and Fitness Center, which includes an indoor turf field, a fully equipped cardiovascular room and a state-of-the-art weight training room. Three full-time athletic trainers are on hand to help students stay fit and return to play.

Become Big Red. The color will suit you.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
