Our Program

On the St. Paul's School volleyball team, we believe in developing the complete student-athlete, someone committed to achieving the highest levels of success in both athletics and academics. Our coaching staff is composed of faculty members who have dedicated their professional careers to the development of our students as both athletes and scholars. Both of our varsity coaches played at the collegiate level and are eager to share their passion for the game.

As a member of NEPSAC, we compete at the highest level against the best private schools in New England. This level of competition will stimulate your growth as a player and a teammate, and further prepare you for success at the next level. The SPS volleyball program has access to multiple oversized courts and state-of-the-art facilities, including strength and conditioning facilities and serving and setting training equipment. As a fully residential community, we pride ourselves on building strong bonds within our teams. This includes learning about and supporting the student, artist or debater in all of our players. You'll find a supportive and encouraging environment here, where you can grow not only as an athlete but also as an engaged citizen in our global world.

Coaching

Head Coach Scott Reynolds arrived at St. Paul's School in 2001 and has led the volleyball team to three ISL Championships (2013-2015) and a run of 13 straight NEPSAC tournament bids (2009-2021). Coach Reynolds notes that volleyball is the most popular girls and women's sport in the United States, and his goal at SPS is for players and fans alike to see why volleyball fills stadiums around the world. As the head coach, he works to instill the virtues and rewards of athleticism and team competition while maintaining an atmosphere that is positive, respectful and fun. Team expectations are to model good character through our words and actions and to be good teammates through preparation and attitude.

Coach Reynolds is a graduate of McGill University and Boston University and teaches science at St. Paul's, where he is currently the head of the Science Department. He is also the NEPSAC Volleyball League President and served in the same capacity for the ISL from 2012-2015, winning the Sportsmanship Award in 2019. In addition to coaching the SPS varsity program since 2002, Coach Reynolds was the NH Granite Games All-Star Coach in 2018-2019. As a player, he was a Central Region All-Star (1994, 1995) and New England Tournament MVP (1996) for the Boston University Volleyball Club (pre-NCAA), winning three New England Championships (1995, 1996, 1998). He also participated in the Massachusetts Bay State Games.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
