Our Program

St. Paul's School has a rich tradition of excellence in wrestling, and we are committed to helping our athletes reach their full potential both on and off the mat.

The program competes at the National Prep Wrestling Championships, and has had wrestlers achieve All-American status. We also participate in the NEPSWA Prep Tournament.

The boys wrestling team has had a successful 2024-25 season with an overall record of 15-3 that included a four-match winning streak. They also had strong showings at Nationals, with several wrestlers earning All-American honors. The girls team also saw significant success, including a program-best third place finish at Nationals. One athlete was named SPS's first-ever four-time Girls National All-American.

Coaching

Head Coach Nathan Canniff is a new faculty member at SPS this year. A teacher in the Science Department, he is eager to guide Big Red wrestlers both on and off the mat. Coach Canniff brings a blend of competitive experience, coaching background and academic excellence that will strengthen the future of wrestling at SPS.

Coach Canniff first stepped onto the mat as a student-athlete at Middlesex School, where he quickly embraced the sport's intensity and discipline. His senior year culminated with a qualification for Prep Nationals.

After college, Coach Canniff returned to Middlesex, this time as a teacher and coach, where he reconnected with the sport from the other side of the whistle. His coaching experience built on his foundation as a competitor and introduced him to the mentorship side of wrestling — helping young athletes develop resilience, confidence and technique.

Become Big Red. The color will suit you.

Sportsmanship, respect and kindness are at the core of our coaching and playing, whether at the club, junior varsity or varsity team level. On the field, court and ice, students step into leadership roles, taking as their role models the coaches who also serve as their classroom teachers and house advisers. Our 95,000-square-foot Athletic and Fitness Center serves the entire St. Paul's community, helping all students prioritize their physical well being — no matter their athletic interests or skill level.
