St. Paul's School came away with a 3-2 victory on the road against the Huskies from New Hampton to move to 4-0 in the Lakes Region this season. The Big Red started slowly in this first game back from an extended time away from the pitch due to our Family Weekend. We fell behind early with a pair of goals from the hosts but responded with some of our best play of the year to close out the half.
Peter Kelly answered the bell with a brace to pull the game even. Kelly's first goal came on a long ball over the top from
Bo Williams that sent him in alone with the keeper and Kelly made the most of the opportunity. The second goal came on a feed from Chris Tong, who again took advantage of the Huskies' high line to put Kelly in position to score on his weak foot, and again Kelly delivered. In addition to putting the ball in the net, the Big Red did well keeping possession of the ball, playing to feet, and changing the point of attack through combination play. Jeb Stegall,
Jackson Sung, Ben Clary,
Luca Walter,
Kwame Ackah, and
Kyan Hands all played a part in putting on the pressure. The second half was a much lower-scoring affair as the visitors had to battle the low-hanging late October sun. In the 75
th minute, hard work from Ben Clary earned us a corner kick and Hal Johnson placed the in-swinging ball right on
Bo Williams' foot just beyond the far post. Williams volleyed the ball into the back of the net to put St. Paul's ahead for good. Up next, St. Paul's School host Exeter for a battle of the Big Reds.
