SPS welcomed Lakes Region opponent Holderness to the Gordon Rink Saturday afternoon. Similar to the night before, the Big Red ran into a talented and hot goaltender which made for an exciting contest. SPS peppered Holderness with over fifty shots, many from point blank range, but were only tally one goal in the first period. Co-captain
Tess Mulkerron buried a one timer at the back post to give the hosts the 1 – 0 lead with assists from
Liza Demain and
Cadence Crowley. The Big Red then opened their lead in the second as co-captain
Chelsea Bell made a super move on the Holderness goaltender after receiving a perfect pass from
Kelsey MacPherson. Co-captain
Maggie Berleth made it 3 – 0 when she snapped off a powerful wrister from the top of the left circle after a nice feed from
Madelyn Humber.
The final period saw another pair of goals by the Big Red.
Madeline Allen pushed the puck across the goal line, and in the moment that followed, got around the net to tap it in from the other side.
Chandler Curtis was going hard to the net and made sure there was no doubt that the puck had crossed the line.
Madeline Allen scored her second of the afternoon with a power play goal when she turned and fired the puck from a high rebound from a
Chelsea Bell shot. Credit to the Bulls for never letting up as they pushed to get on the board until the final whistle. While SPS goaltender
Paige MacPhee did not see a lot of action early in the game, she came up big earning the shutout with a flurry of saves in the final minutes of the game.
The Big Red gets back to practice early this week and wrap up their schoolwork before heading off to the Harrington Tournament at the Noble and Greenough School and Milton Academy before leaving on their well-earned Winter Break. Hope you can join us.
