The Big Red had a positive start to the Harrington Tournament as they opened with a sound victory over the Milton Mustangs. It was a balanced effort by SPS with who was able to control most of the play, outshooting the Mustangs in each of the three periods. A strong forecheck and a willingness to get pucks to the net allowed the Big Red to score a goal in each period. At 11:46
Chelsea Bell went upstairs with sweet backhand shot off a
Madeline Allen pass to put SPS up 1- 0. In the second, it would be
Erin Flaherty less than a minute into the period, picking up the rebound of a
Madelyn Humber shot and doing a quick wrap around stuff to the weakside. Getting pucks deep in the third period generated much pressure by the Big Red.
Chelsea Bell would close out the scoring to make it 3 - 0 with helpers from
Madeline Allen and
Erin Flaherty. Defensively, Goaltender
Paige MacPhee was strong in net making numerous saves to keep the Mustangs off the board.
On Saturday, the squad has a rematch against the Williston Northampton School at 10:30am followed by a night game versus a hardworking St. Mark's School team at 6:30.
Go Big Red!
