For the second time in two weeks the Big Red faced off against the Williston Northampton School. A quick side who liked to possess the puck, SPS knew they would need a great effort. That is just what they gave. The first period saw fast paced action from both sides with very few stoppages in play. There were moments WNS had consistent zone presence, but goaltender
Paige MacPhee could see all the shots from the outside and handled them with confidence. With five minutes to play in the first, Williston went on the power play and with some crisp puck movement to the back side, they went up 1 – 0 for the lone goal in the period.
The second period saw the Big Red bring a higher level of energy which resulted in more pucks to the net. Two minutes into the stanza
Tess Mulkerron worked hard behind the net to win a loose puck and feed
Cadence Crowley in the slot.
Cadence Crowley buried a strong shot into the back of the net to knot the game at 1. While SPS pressed as the period went along, WNS was able to regain the lead with their second power play goal late in the period to make it a 2 – 1 game.
The third was another exciting period with both teams creating chances.
Paige MacPhee was super, and SPS attacked well forcing the Williston goaltender to make several crucial saves. Despite the effort the Big Red could not find the goal they needed. With a minute to play and the goaltender pulled, the Wildcats scored an empty netter to put the final score at 3 – 1. As difficult as the loss was, the compete level by the Big Red was high and they knew they had more games ahead of them.
