The Big Red Girls Varsity hockey team was finally able to open the 2025 – 26 season with a trip to Wolfeboro, NH and the home of Lakes Region opponent, the Brewster Bobcats. SPS came out fast and got pucks to the Brewster net often. The result was a confidence building 6 – 2 lead after the first period. Over the course of the 10 – 3 victory, seven different players lit the lamp for the Big Red. Multiple goal scorers
Erin Flaherty,
Grace White and
Tess Mulkerron combined with single tallies from
Maealie Glanzer,
Kelsey MacPherson,
Cadence Crowley to lead the offense. Lots of quality helpers and numerous other great chances had everyone involved.
In the defensive end, goaltenders
Paige MacPhee and
Julia Alessandro made several key stops to backbone a solid effort. Each period saw growth in the defensive groups' ability to take away time and space from the Brewster attackers. A solid start for the club as it begins the season. The squad is just beginning to get to know each other as they have now been together for a week which included a pair of positive scrimmages before the Thanksgiving break.
Looking at the club: The Big Red are very fortunate to have four excellent 6
th form co-captains leading the way. They are
Chelsea Bell (F/D),
Maggie Berleth (D),
Jade Hill (D) and
Tess Mulkerron (F) who are all super role models. With ten other returning players joining this group, which include 5
th formers
Erin Flaherty (F),
Iris LaMoreaux (D),
Alexis Rodriguez (F),
Paige MacPhee (G) and 4
th formers
Maealie Glanzer (F),
Madelyn Humber (F),
Cadence Crowley (F),
Liza Demain (F), Gabby Smith (D), Maddy Allen (F), the team has a good deal of veteran experience. Adding to this talented group are eight newcomers to the club. They are 5
th formers
Grace White (F),
Chandler Curtis (F), 4
th formers
Lucy Mallgrave (D),
Charlotte Cohen (F), and 3
rd formers
Kelsey MacPherson (F),
Emma Burke (D),
Malin Wilde (D) and Julia Allesandro (G). The energy this young group has infused to the early practices is palpable. The competitiveness of everyone in practice, as well as the emphasis of being a great teammate and building a positive team culture, are what the squad will focus on each day this season.
Next up for the Big Red is a Saturday trip to the home of the Williston-North Hampton Wildcats. Looking forward to a fast paced, competitive hockey game as the season gets underway.
Go Big Red.
