O'Regan's first period hatrick leads Big Red over Hornets

SPS 9 - Proctor Academy 3
Saturday, December 13th
Hockey Center / Gordon Rink
Concord, New Hampshire

In the fourth game of the 2025 - 2026 St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey season, the number "3" played a prominent role in the three periods of this Lakes Region Hockey matchup between the "Big Red" and the Proctor Academy "Hornets." The St. Paul's School skaters were sharp from the opening face-off. They scored three goals in each of the three periods. Fourth Former Max O'Regan '28 tallied a natural "hat trick" in the first period to give the home team a three-to-zero lead after the first eighteen minutes of play. O'Regan's first-period goals were scored three different ways: a one-timer shot, a breakaway, and a deflection—all in the span of nine minutes.

In the second period, the "Big Red" exploded for three more goals to send the home team fans into a frenzy and put the game out of reach. The line of Mitchell Smith '28, Jaden Ficek '26, and Callum Green '28 accounted for the St. Paul's School scoring, with each player scoring a goal. Smith scored a shorthanded breakaway goal, beating the Proctor netminder with a backhand shot between the legs. Ficek's goal came off a turnover in the "high ice" of the visiting team's defensive zone; he skated the puck down to the left face-off shot and unleashed a wicked snapshot to the far side. Callum Green's "one-timer" goal came off a cross-ice pass from Mitchell Smith. The "Big Red" surrendered one goal in the middle period of play for a resounding six-to-one lead at the end of two periods of play.

The "Big Red's" three goals in the third period came three different ways: in four-versus-four play, on a breakaway, and on a snapshot from the left face-off circle. Ryan Vohra '27, Callum Green '27, and Anderson Kilbourne '26 were the three goal scorers, respectively. Vohra's goal came off a nice individual effort by Gavin Code '26 to win a puck battle, and then he made a nice cross-crease pass to Vohra, who fired the puck into the upper right-hand corner of the net. Green picked up a loose puck at the defensive blue line, and he literally just out-skated his opponents through the middle of the neutral zone for a breakaway goal. Anderson Kilbourne's goal, the last "Big Red" goal of the game, came off a "Hornet" defensive zone turnover to Fin Kilbourne '27, who made a nice pass to his brother, Anderson, who then skated the puck to the left face-off dot and beat the goalie to the far side.

Assistant Captain, goaltender, Blake Truchon was the winning goalie for the "Big Red." Truchon stopped twenty-two of twenty-five Proctor Academy shots.

Lastly, three players in the game had three points: St. Paul's School's O'Regan '28, Green '27, and Proctor Academy's Luke Long '26.

The "Big Red" are back in action at Kimball Union Academy on December 15th for a 6:00 pm puck drop at Akerstrom Arena.
