BVIH Shuts Out Brewster

On February 12th, the St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey team traveled to Wolfeboro to the "Pop Whalen" Arena to take on the Brewster Academy "Wildcats" for a 3:00 PM puck drop on the southern banks of Lake Winnipesaukee. The "Big Red" skated away with a 5-0 victory. Millville netminder Blake Truchon '26 (South Burlington, VT) stopped all 31 shots he faced for his second shutout of the 2024-2025 campaign. The "Big Red" scored two power-play goals, one short-handed goal, one even-strength goal, and one empty-net goal to seal another strong Lakes Region Hockey Conference win. Harry Dermody '26 (Bedford, New Hampshire) scored the game's first goal in the closing minute of the first period on the power play when he took a pass from Colin O'Leary '27 (Winthrop, MA) in front of the net and deftly took his time to go to his backhand and then forehand to deposit the puck in the back of the net behind the Brewster goaltender.

After a scoreless second period, Mitchell Smith '27 (Thunder Bay, ON) teamed up with Anderson Kilbourne '26 (Duxbury, MA) to score a short-handed two-on-one goal that broke the back of the home team. Four minutes later, Smith was at it again when he picked up the puck on the right half-board in the offensive zone, skated the puck into the "high ice," cut to the middle of the rink, and made his way into the high slot to fire a wicked snapshot past the goalie's waffle for the game's third goal. Avery Ferraris '25 (Pawling, NY) tallied the fourth goal of the game on the power play when he calmly waited for Gavin Code '26 (Littleton, CO) to establish a net-front screen, and when the screen was established, Ferraris unleashed a missile to the upper half of the net that the Brewster Academy goalie never saw. In the closing minutes of play, Brewster Academy pulled their goalie for the extra attacker to avoid the shutout on home ice, but Truchon and the "Big Red" team defense had a contrasting vision for the final result. Third Former Luke Michaud '28 (Denver, CO) potted the fifth and final goal of the game in the last minute of play when he rifled a long wrist shot from the top of the right defensive zone circle to the empty net and secured the shutout.

The "Big Red" are back in action on Saturday, February 15th, in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink at 3:00 PM against the Lawrence Academy "Spartans."
