SPS 3 - Holderness 6
Wednesday, January 14th
Alfond Arena, Fiore Rink
Plymouth, New Hampshire
The St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey team traveled north on Interstate 93 to Plymouth to take on Lakes Region Hockey Conference foe, the Holderness School "Bulls," and were defeated by a score of six - to - three. The theme for the "Big Red's" game against Holderness was the "odd-man" rush. The "Bulls" scored several odd-man rush goals, which is unusual against the "Big Red" defense, as well as a power play goal and an empty-net goal.
The game was closer than the final score indicates. The teams were tied one - to - one at the end of the first period. At the end of the second period, the Bulls held a three - to - two lead. In the last eighteen minutes of play, with six minutes remaining, the "Big Red" trailed four - to - three. Unfortunately, they were unable to convert on a power play opportunity with six minutes left in regulation and then let the game slip away in the final two minutes.
The "Big Red" goal scorers were Carter Doherty '26, Quinn Brandell '26, and Ryan Vohra '27. Doherty's '26 and Vohra's '27 goals in the first and third periods of play were rebound shots past the Holdernss goaltender; Brandell's goal came in the second and was a wrist shot low to the stick side from the top of the left face-off circle. Â
The "Big Red" resumes action on Friday, January 16th at 6:00 pm when they travel to Andover, Massachusetts to take on the "Big Blue" from Phillips Academy Andover. Â
