Friday night's Lakes Region showdown between the Big Red and Brewster brought a load of fans to the Form of '52 Gym—and the game did not disappoint. Stifling defense kept the scoring low, and both teams battled from start to finish. In the first half, Brewster built a 26-20 lead at the intermission, but the Big Red never lost faith. In the second half, St. Paul's went on a run to build a 39-34 lead with just minutes to play, but then Brewster caught fire. At just 50 seconds remaining, Brewster was up 46-41.
Jake Reardon hit a three pointer to narrow the deficit, and Brewster's next possession resulted in a missed free throw. St. Paul's brought the ball over half court with 25 seconds remaining down 2. Trey miller missed a shot in the paint, but St. Paul's battled on the offensive glass, and
Mekhi Simmons ultimately deflected the rebound right into the hands of
Jake Reardon, who knocked down another 3 to win the game. In the electric victory, Reardon finished with 12 points (all in the second half), Trey Miller added 9 points and 8 rebounds,
Mekhi Simmons contributed 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while
Liam Henaghen,
Patrick Ricca, and
Tighe Arache added 6 points, 5 points, and 5 points, respectively.
