SPS beats Andover on the Road

SPS 2 - Andover 1

Friday, January 16th
Ted Harrison Rink
Andover, Massachusetts

The St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey team traveled down to Andover, Massachusetts to take on Phillips Andover "Big Blue" and skated away with a well-earned two - to - one win. The game was tightly contested from start to finish. In the first period, neither team scored, and the St. Paul's School "Big Red" killed off two penalties. In the middle period, the St. Paul's School skaters scored two goals: one off the stick of Callum Green '27 and the other from Fin Kilbourne '27. Green's goal came with three minutes, and thirty-three seconds left in the period when Mitchell Smith '27 attacked the middle of the ice from the top of the left face-off circle in the offensive zone and fired a pass to Green tracking to the far post. Green deftly redirected the puck under the Andover goaltender to give the "Big Red" an important one-goal lead. With thirty-six seconds left in the second period, Anderson Kilbourne '26 broke in with his brother Fin on a two-on-one from just inside the offensive blue line. Anderson pulled the defender and goaltender over to the right side of the rink and then slid the puck to his left, and Fin deposited the puck into the empty net to give the "Big Red" skaters a lot of momentum to start the third period. In the final period of play, the "Big Red" came together, recommitted to their "team defense," and St. Paul's School goaltender, Blake Truchon '26, continued his outstanding play in the net by making several key stops at crucial moments throughout the game—especially in the third period to seal the victory. This game was a total team effort, and everyone made a significant contribution to the victory.

The "Big Red" varsity boys hockey team will be back in action on Saturday, January 17th at 4:00 pm in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink against Lakes Region hockey conference rival Kimball Union Academy.
