St. Paul's hosted Thayer Academy on Saturday for a matchup between two strong NEPSAC Class A teams. Thanks to three-pointers by
Patrick Ricca and
Liam Henaghen, St. Paul's started on a tear—building a 13-5 lead. But, Thayer fought back, and throughout the rest of the first half the game went back and forth, with Thayer ultimately taking a 30-28 lead into the intermission. Thayer then started the second half on a run of their own, building a lead all the way to 50-39, but the Big Red did not give up—erasing the 11-point deficit in a matter of less than two minutes, thanks to excellent defense and smart decision making in transition, with
Jake Reardon leading the charge with multiple buckets and assists. From this point forward, the lead kept changing hands until
Treyvon Miller put SPS up for good with a strong post finish with under 30 seconds on the clock. The Big Red then got a terrific stop highlighted by a
Liam Henaghen block and a
Patrick Ricca steal. Ricca then iced the game from the free throw line and the Big Red earned the win. In the victory, Ricca finished with 21 points while
Treyvon Miller and
Tighe Arache each added 11.
