St. Paul's School boys cross country traveled to Deerfield Academy on Saturday, October 10th for a dual meet. Taking advantage of the flat course, the Big Red harriers ran fast, and 19 runners posted lifetime bests.
Michael Yung-Coak '30 and
Owen Leichtling '30 both competed in their first races for the School. The varsity race featured tactical pacing through the first half that made the finishing mile a nailbiter, one that ended with Deerfield taking the team win thanks to impressive running from their low sticks. Junior varsity, racing concurrently, featured pack running from both teams; St. Paul's won the event with a string of seven straight St. Paul's JV runners all scoring or displacing quick succession. The full team gained valuable experience racing on a flat course similar to the year-end championship one at Phillips Exeter Academy in November.
Next week, the team will compete as a split squad across several competitions: at the Northern New England Invitational October 14th, the Capital Area Championship on October 15th, and at Andover on October 17th.
