Hockey Center / Gordon Rink
Concord, New Hampshire
St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey team hosted the Brewster Academy "Wildcats" in a Lakes Region Hockey Conference matchup and skated away with a six-to-zero win. The "Big Red" offense scored one goal in the first period, three in the second period, and two in the third period of play.
Finian Kilbourne '27 started the scoring for the "Big Red" early in the first period when he fired a snapshot from the left side of the slot to the far-right side of the net to beat the "Bobcat" goaltender cleanly. Sixth Form captain
Harry Dermody '26, Carter Dohery '26, and
Jack Bentley '28 all scored in the second period. Dermody's goal came on a nice three-on-two line rush that was set up by
James Buchan '27 and
Callum Green '27. Doherty's goal came off a face-off on the right side of the offensive zone when
Luke Michaud '28 won a draw to
Max O'Regan '28, who then chipped the puck over to Doherty. The Sixth Form, two-sport varsity athlete made a nice escape move off the left side boards, attacked the center of the ice, and ripped a snap-shot to the far side of the upper corner of the net. The "Big Red's" third goal of the period came off the stick of
Jack Bentley when
Jaden Ficek '26 collected a puck in the left-hand corner of the offensive zone from assistant captain
Gavin Code '26. Fiicek took the puck and danced his way out of the corner through the Brewster defense toward the opposing team's net and slid the puck to an open Bentley; the Fourth Form rugged winger banged the puck home under the "Bobcat" goalie to give St. Paul's School a commanding four-to-zero lead after thirty-six minutes of play.
Anderson Kilbourne scored St. Paul's School's fifth goal of the game early in the third period when he would a loose puck from a Ryan Vohra '27 face-off win on the right side of the offensive zone and made his way into the slot and fired a low, hard shot on net that beat the Brewster goalie cleanly through the five hole. The "Big Red's" final goal of the game came when Harry Dermody collected a puck on the left side of the rink just inside the St. Paul's School defensive zone and fired a cross-ice pass to a streaking Callum Green. Green collected the puck at the far blue line and skated in all alone on the Brewster goalie and released a quick snapshot to beat him high and to the stick side.
Matteo Vessella '27 was the winning goalie for the "Big Red," stopping all twenty Brewster Academy shots and earning his first career shutout.
The "Big Red" varsity boys hockey team resumes action Saturday, February 14, when they travel down to Lawrence Academy to take on the "Spartans" on Grant Rink at 3:00 pm.
