A heartfelt pregame ceremony for the four sixth formers and the co-captains,
Tess Mulkerron,
Jade Hill,
Chelsea Bell,
Maggie Berleth was the kickoff for the GVH SPS Senior Day. The impact these seniors have had on the program over the past four years is impressive and today the team showed their resolve and the lessons they have learned as they took on the Other Big Red of Phillips Exeter. SPS wasted no time getting on the board as
Maggie Berleth went coast to coast in the second minute of the contest and sniped a snapshot into the upper right corner. A minute later,
Madeline Allen would bang home a tough angle rebound of
Gabrielle Smith shot from the top of the circle.
Chelsea Bell would close out the scoring in the first period finishing a sweet pass across the Royal Road by
Tess Mulkerron. A very sound eighteen minutes of hockey by the Big Red.
Exeter came out in the second scoring early at the end of a power play, but the next fifteen minutes would be all SPS. Playing the maybe their best second period of the season, St. Paul's would score six more goals. Berleth and Bell added their second each while
Erin Flaherty,
Cadence Crowley,
Kelsey MacPherson and
Tess Mulkerron added tallies of their own.
While the third period saw no more goals, the SPS defense played well. The goaltending duties were well covered by
Paige MacPhee and
Julia Alessandro. On Friday, SPS head to Lakes Region opponent The Tilton School and then finish the home and home series away at Exeter on Saturday.
Go Big Red!
