SPS traveled to the Tilton School on Monday afternoon to make up their game postponed from last Friday. The Big Red would get on the board first when
Erin Flaherty deftly popped a backhander over the Tilton goaltenders' shoulder four minutes into the contest. Despite numerous chances over the course of the period the Big Red could not extend their lead.
The second period showed more energy from SPS as the squad possessed the puck well in their offensive end. They funneled every chance they could to the Tilton net. Tough defending and sharp goaltending by the Rams kept the Big Red off the board until there were just under six minutes to play in the period.
Tess Mulkerron picked off a clearing pass and did not hesitate to go to the net. Tess' skill and soft hands found the back of the net quickly to give SPS the 2 – 0 lead to close out the period.
As they entered the final stanza SPS continued to pressure the Tilton net, but they could not score the critical third goal. Tilton worked hard and the chances they had were snuffed out by the steady goaltending of third former
Julia Alessandro. The game was made exciting when Tilton was able to take advantage of a defensive turnover with just under 5 minutes to play and scored to make it a 2 – 1 game. To make things even more exciting, the Big Red was called for a penalty with 1:48 to play. Great goaltending, tough defending and shot blocking came into play as SPS played 4 on 6 before
Erin Flaherty was able to ice the puck into the empty net with :25 seconds to play. Credit the Rams for their excellent effort and the Big Red for raising the floor of their play throughout the contest.
On Wednesday, the Big Red wraps up the 2025 – 26 season as they play their final Lakes Region contest at Proctor Academy. This will be followed by the Lakes Region Tournament the following weekend; details to come.
Go Big Red!
