The Big Red took down the Hornets from Proctor Academy Friday night under the lights by a score of 2-1.
William Birks provided all the offense with a second half brace. The first half was scoreless as St. Paul's struggled in the early going to adapt to the artificial playing surface after playing every game and practice of the season on grass. After 40 minutes of play, however, the Big Red were able to put things together. The first goal came off a corner from Hal Johnson that was perfectly placed in a dangerous area in front of the net and Birks slammed a header into the back of the net. The second goal came off a rush from
Peter Kelly that drew out the center back and the keeper, leaving Birks with a single mark in front of the net that he was able to beat to put St. Paul's up by two. Proctor made the game interesting with a goal on a late penalty. Strong goalkeeping by
Aarav Mehta and good defensive work in front of him by Johnson, Jack Rubiralta-Kunze, Enoch Huang, and
Luke Childs prevented the Hornets from equalizing.
