The St. Paul's School boys varsity hockey team picked up their second Lakes Region win of the season late this afternoon with a three-to-one victory over the Vermont Academy "Wildcats." Both teams skated to a zero-to-zero score in the first eighteen minutes of play, with both team's goaltenders playing extremely well. "Big Red" netminder
Blake Truchon '26 (South Burlington, VT) stopped several "grade A" quality scoring attempts to keep the visitors off the board and the team settled in the opening frame.
In the second period of play, the teams exchanged power player markers. The "Big Red" jumped on the board first when Pat Cooley '25 (Rutland, VT), the Isthmian forward, took a pass from assistant captain
Avery Ferraris '25 (Pawling, NY) and fired home a low shot from the left flank with a great net presence from
Gavin Code '26 (Littleton, CO). A minute later, the visitors went on the power play and they made quick work of their man-advantage opportunity and potted their only goal of the game.
With the game tied at one goal apiece after two periods of play, SPS knew what they had to do and took care of business. They played good team defense; they were strong on the penalty kill and were opportunistic when given the offensive opportunity. Fifth Former, Old Hundred member,
Andersen Kilbourne (Duxbury, MA) deposited a pass from the captain
Matt Vohra '25 (Valley NS) behind the Vermont Academy goaltender to give the "Big Red" their second goal of the game and a two-to-one lead. Less than three minutes later,
Avery Ferraris '25, the Delphian Club defenseman, took a cross-slot pass from fellow assistant captain
Harry Dermody '26, (Bedford, NH) and one-timed to the back of the net to put the "Big Red" up by two with a little under seven minutes to play in regulation. For the balance of the game, Truchon '26 came up big when called upon and the St. Paul's School skaters managed the game with maturity to earn a good hard-played win from another
tough Lakes Region opponent.
