Big Red Boys Lax Falls to Portsmouth Abbey to Open Season

The first official game of the season for St. Paul's Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team took place at Portsmouth Abbey's home field on a sunny and cool Saturday afternoon. Despite a spirited effort, St. Paul's dropped its season opener to Portsmouth Abbey by a score of 5-9.

First Quarter:
The game began with Portsmouth Abbey asserting their dominance, notching the first three goals of the match. St. Paul's responded when Angus Clark capitalized on a feed from Conley Bohan, narrowing the deficit to 3-1 by the end of the first period.

St. Paul's: 1
Portsmouth Abbey: 3

Second Quarter:
Portsmouth Abbey continued their offensive onslaught, extending their lead with three more goals. St. Paul's fought back with Quinton Delorey blasting a shot to make it 6-2. A man-up opportunity late in the quarter saw Angus Clark scoring his second goal, bringing St. Paul's within three goals at halftime, trailing 6-3.

Third Quarter:
The third quarter saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams. Portsmouth Abbey scored the first two goals of the half, stretching their lead to 8-3. St. Paul's responded with determination, as Fin Kilbourne found Conley Bohan to make it 8-4. Later in the quarter, Charlie Hepp converted a fast break opportunity off a feed from Quinton Delorey, narrowing the gap to 8-5.

Fourth Quarter:
Despite a valiant effort from St. Paul's, Portsmouth Abbey managed to maintain their lead, adding one more goal in the final quarter. St. Paul's fought hard but was unable to find the back of the net again, resulting in a final score of 9-5 in favor of Portsmouth Abbey.

While the loss was disappointing, St. Paul's demonstrated resilience and determination throughout the game. With valuable lessons learned, they will look to bounce back stronger in their upcoming home game against Groton School.
