Race Recaps:
Â
B3-4: All three crews got off the line cleanly, with both SPS crews pressing out to an advantage over Tabor. By 500m, the SPS 3
rd eight had established itself in command of the race, with the SPS 4
th eight working to keep overlap. In the middle 500m, both crews increased their advantage over Tabor, with the SPS 3
rd eight pushing to open water over the SPS 4
th eight. In the third 500m, both SPS crews worked to close out the race well, with the SPS 3
rd eight finishing 1½ lengths clear of the SPS 4
th eight and Tabor some distance back in third.
Â
B2: Tabor had the better start and built a ½ length advantage in the first 250m. After struggling off the line, SPS established a strong rhythm and managed to pull even with Tabor by 500m. In the middle 500m, SPS took advantage of their better base speed to press out ahead of Tabor. In the 3
rd 500m, SPS built on the lead they had established and closed out the race with a substantial margin over Tabor.
Â
B1: Both crews got off the line well, with Tabor pressing aggressively to present an early challenge to SPS. SPS responded by building a strong base rhythm and pressed ahead of Tabor, crossing the 500m mark with open water. In the middle 500m, SPS built on this lead, increasing their margin. Despite increasing headwind in the 3
rd 500m, SPS closed well, with command of the race to the finish line.
Â
In all, this was a solid first day of racing for the SPS boys' crews. The early season focus on building base speed and rhythm proved effective, as the SPS crews were able to dominate the racing in the middle portion of the course. While it is early, and we are still sorting out personnel and testing combinations, the potential of the group was clear in their effort and execution today.
