The boys varsity hockey team hosted the Holderness School "Bulls" this afternoon, January 15th, at 2:30 PM in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink and lost by a final score of 7-4. The "Big Red" got off to a slow start in the first period, giving up three goals to the "Bulls" in the first four minutes of play. Sixth Form captain,
Matt Vohra '25 (Valley, NS), scored the "Big Red's" first goal at the seven-minute and forty-nine-second mark of the opening eighteen minutes of play on a wicked snapshot from the high ice in the offensive zone, closing the Holderness School lead to two. Several minutes later, the "Bulls" responded with a fourth goal to reclaim their three-goal lead. The resilient "Big Red" skaters did not waver, and less than a minute later,
Ryan Vohra '27 (Valley, NS) won a scrum in front of the Holderness net and knocked home a loose puck in the crease to bring St. Paul's School back to within two of the Lakes Region hockey conference foe. Holderness would score one more goal before the end of the period to make the score 5-2.
Â
Six minutes into the second period,
Harry Dermody '26 (Bedford, NH), scored the "Big Red's" third goal of the game, and it looked like the "boys of winter" were going to mount a comeback, but the Holderness defense did not waver. The next eight minutes of play saw a lot of up-and-down-the-ice action between the two teams. The "Big Red" killed off two penalties successfully and generated high-quality offensive chances in four-versus-four play. Then, with four minutes to play in the second period, the game got away from St. Paul's School; they surrendered two goals to Holderness, and the "Bulls" went into the locker room with a 7-3 lead.
Â
In the third period, St. Paul's School skater,
Quinn Brandell '26 (Plattsburgh, NY), scored the lone goal of the period on the power play with a wrist shot from the top of the left face-off circle, to make the final score 7-4.
