In a very even and physical contest, the Big Reds of NH competed in a complete 90 minutes of soccer. Both sides wanted to play and moved the ball sharply from side to side. A Seb Beech to Matt Baptiste corner created the first chance for SPS just three minutes into the game. Exeter came right back forcing Big Red keeper
Leo Colinet to make his first of many excellent stops. Will Iller applied pressure all over the field and had chances as did striker Alex de Burgh Codrington. Late in the half, with Exeter pressing, co-captain
Henry Wilson came all the way back from his striker possession to provide a strong clearance header just when SPS needed it. The team was fully committed to giving their all for each other and it showed. The half would end 0 – 0.
The pattern of play would continue as the second half began. Strong tackles by
Theo Quan, Seb Beech and
Bright Tweneboah in the midfield and hard running by wingbacks
Iago Arango,
Blake Truchon and
Nikita Duncan kept the game tight. Stellar play in back, both in the air and on the ground by Pat Ricca, Matt Baptiste and AJ Zoltowski kept the Exeter attack away from goal. A the game came into its final twenty minutes it would the Exeter who created several exciting chances. The first was a one-on-one chance with the Exeter striker in all alone and Colinet was up for challenge. He made a super save and smothered the ball. With 15 minutes to play as Colinet came hard for the ball, it was chipped over his outstretched fingers and floated to the SPS goal. Out of nowhere, Zoltowski appeared and made an acrobatic clearance off the goal line, keeping the score level. This is how it would end as the Big Red of Concord left it all on the field in the nil – nil draw.
A busy three game week ahead as the side hosts Tilton on Wed. and Dexter on Sat. and travel for a night game on Friday to Proctor Academy.
Go Big Red!
