Big Red tops Tilton Rams

SPS got off on the right foot with a strong team effort as the side played a complete game in a solid win over Lakes Region opponent the Tilton School.  Five minutes into the contest a Will Iller square ball found Augustus Kang at the top of the box.  Augustus took a quality first touch a struck a clean ball to the near corner.  An excellent Tilton keeper save prevented SPS from taking the early lead.  It would take twenty-five minutes before SPS would find the back of the net.  Colin Smith found Iller on the flank who again found Kang in the middle of the park.  A through ball from Augustus to striker Evers Saleeby sent Evers in alone on net and he wasted no time putting the Big Red in the lead 1 – 0.  The Rams did a nice job themselves finding space in the midfield as the half wore on and created chances of their own.  Shortly after the SPS goal Tilton's hard work, combined with a weak clearance of a loose ball by the home side, saw the visitors equalize.  The Big Red refocused and  with nineteen minutes to play in the half Henry Wilson got free in the box only to be fouled as he went to the net.  Matt Baptiste confidently struck the resulting penalty kick into the side netting to put the Big Red up 2 -1 before the half ended.
The second half showed much of the same with SPS controlling a good amount of the play.  Blake Truchon fed Bright Tweneboah at the top of the box for a quality chance and this was followed by Bright playing a well-placed through ball to a streaking Nikita Duncan whose one-timer required another excellent save by the Tilton keeper.  With twenty-three minutes to play a Seb Beech corner was played deep for Henry Wilson who headed the ball back across the front of the goal for a waiting Matt Baptiste who tapped the loose ball in for a 3 – 1 lead.  That is how it would end with the entire side contributing to the win.
Upcoming:  SPS heads to Proctor on Friday night and hosts the Dexter School on Hunt field on Saturday.  The plan, as it has been all season, is to be a great teammate and become a great team.
Go Big Red!
