The boys varsity hockey team traveled over to Vermont Academy on a snowy Wednesday afternoon to take on a pesky Vermont Academy "Wildcat" hockey team. After the long bus ride, the "Big Red" got off to a slow start in the first period and found themselves down by one goal at the endof the first eighteen minutes of play. The St. Paul's skaters came out in the second period with more determination and focus, and potted their first goal of the game midway through the period when Sixth Form, Captain Harry Dermody'26, made a nifty pass to Max O'Regan '28 on a two versus one. O'Regan took Dermody's pass and skated in all alone on the Vermont netminder and beat him with a nice backhand shot to the short side of the net.
 
In the third period, both teams skated furiously up and down the ice to try to find the game winning goal, but neither team could find the back of the net. St. Paul's School enjoyed the better part of the play and carried all of the momentum they created in the third period into the five-minute overtime. On the third shift of the overtime, the Harry Dermody, Max O'Regan, and Fin Kilbourne'27 line worked their magic one more time when O'Regan collected a puck in the left-hand corner of the rink below the goal line, and skated towards the back of the Vermont Academy net. As O'Regan made his way to the back of the net, he passed it to Dermody, camped out above the hash marks in the center of the ice, and fired home the game-winning goal to give the "Big Red" an important Lakes Region Hockey Conference win.
 
Matteo Vassella was the winning goalie, stopping nineteen of twenty Vermont Academy shots.
 
The "Big Red" are back in action on Saturday night to take on the Proctor Academy
pm in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink.
