Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic
Avon, Connecticut
In the fourth and final game of the 2025 Avon Old Farms Christmas Classic for the "Big Red" boys varsity hockey team, the St. Paul's School skaters fell to the Loomis Chaffee "Pelicans" by a score of three-to-one in the fifth/sixth place game. Loomis scored the game's first goal midway through the first half of play in five-on-five play. The "Big Red" tied the game two minutes into the second half of play when Ryan Vohra '27 took a pass from Jack Bentley '28 in the middle of the high ice in the offensive zone, and Vohra drifted to his left and fired a snapshot from the top of the left face-off circle to beat the Loomis goalie low on the short side. The game remained tied for the next seventeen minutes of play. Loomis Chaffee broke the tie score with five minutes and twenty-eight seconds when they converted on a three versus three line rush. Four minutes later, the Loomis Chaffee skaters scored their third goal to put the game out of reach for the "Big Red."
Matteo Vessella '27 was the hard-luck loser in net. Vessella stopped fifteen of eighteen "Pelican" shots.
The "Big Red" boys varsity hockey team heads into the holiday break with a record of five wins and four losses and will play their next game at Groton School on Tuesday, January 6th, at 4:30.
