The 3-0 Big Red played a hard-fought match vs Nobles under the lights at Bogle Lechner turf with a packed crowd in their first night game of the season. Off to a fast-paced start, both teams engaged the crowd with back and forth play and several corner attacking opportunities. Using the speed of forwards
Erin Flaherty and
Liza Demain - midfielders
Malin Wilde, and Katie Kim sent through and cross balls setting up multiple scoring opportunities.
Thayer Demers, Abby Hafter, and
Chelsea Bell held strong in the back field stopping the power hits of the Nobles fast paced squad but late in the first quarter the Bulldogs drew a penalty corner which proved unstoppable. Sending the ball to the #2 spot on the circle, a Nobles player hit a direct shot on net. Cynthia Tien made a great save but lost her boot causing her to fall giving Nobles the edge for Gretta Hulbig to knock it in, putting Nobles up, 1-0. In the 2
nd quarter SPS felt that sting of the Nobles power, when Demain went down from a line drive ball to the knee cap. Still, the Big Red held strong going into halftime, 1-0. In the second half Nobles gained momentum as SPS couldn't get the ball through the strong Nobles defense, while their attack wore away at us with man-up opportunities. Drawing more corners, Nobles executed three more beautiful direct shots on goal ending the game, 4-0. Thank you to all the fans for cheering both teams on and honoring the spirit of the game!
SPS will take on Rivers, 9/24 away at 4:30 pm.
