Hockey Center / Gordon Rink
Concord, New Hampshire
The St. Paul's School varsity boys hockey team played host to the Vermont Academy "Wildcats" in an early evening game in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink and skated away with a five - to - zero victory. The "Big Red" skaters scored two goals in the first period and three goals in the second period of play for their eleventh victory of the season and sixth win in Lakes Region Hockey Conference play. Jack Bentley '28 opened the scoring when he established his "net front presence" in front of the Vermont Academy goaltender and banged home a rebound opportunity that came off a snap shot from a falling Callum Green '27 at the top of the right face-off circle. Quinn Brandell '26 scored the second goal of the period in the last minute of play when he followed a three-versus-three-line rush on the weak side of the ice and pounced on a Ryan Vohra '27 rebound that came from the right half of the zone. Vohra's shot carromed off the "Wildcat" netminder's right leg pad out to the left side of the grade "A" scoring area, and Brandell one-timed the puck into the upper half of the net.
Mitchell Smith '27 opened the scoring thirty-three seconds into the second period when he redirected a Chay Simons '27 snap shot from the right point. Sixth Form captain, Harry Dermody '26, and James Buchan '27 teamed up on the "Big Red's" final two goals of the period—both coming on the power-play. St. Paul's fourth goal came when Buchan collected a Smith pass at the right offensive blue-line and made his way down the right side of the rink to the back of the Milton net and made a deft pass to Dermody parked on top of the Vermont goal crease, and the four-year varsity hockey player knew exactly what to do with the puck, by redirecting the puck inside the left post. James Buchan scored the final goal of the game when he took a nice low-to-high pass from Mitchell Smith on the right side of the rink, just inside the offensive blue line. As Buchan readied his shot on net, Dermody timed his screen perfectly in front of the Vermont Academy goaltender, and Buchan's snap shot sailed into the upper left corner of the net with the goaltender never seeing the puck.
Assistant Captain, goaltender, Blake Truchon '26, earned the shutout victory, stopping all twenty-two Vermont Academy shots on net.
The St. Paul's School "Big Red" varsity boys hockey team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 28th, when they host the Milton Academy "Mustangs" in the Hockey Center on Gordon Rink at 5:15 pm.
