After a wonderful playday on Saturday, and a scrimmage on Wednesday, SPS was excited to get to work and take on the Groton Zebras. Just under four minutes into the game, Liza Demain '28 ripped a shot inside the top of the circle slamming it into the boards for the first goal of the season.  Charlotte Cohen '28 soon followed with a low post shot giving SPS a 2-0 lead.  The team chemistry started to flow as center back, Kaitlyn Kim intercepted the ball, passed left to Malin Wilde '29 who carried laterally right, passing to Maisie Hayne '29, who redirected the ball to Cohen for her 2nd goal on the day.

The second quarter went scoreless with both teams thwarting any corner attempts thanks to the speed of SPS's Erin Flaherty '27 on fly. On a buzzer beater in the 3rd quarter, Wilde split the play, gathered the ball, passed to Flaherty '27 who broke down field, pulling the goalie, to get off a shot off, but Groton's goalie made a beautiful save. Fortunately, Gracen Arndt '27 was there to gather the rebound finishing the score at, 4-0.

Great play from both goalies, Katherine Edgcomb '28 and Julia Alessandro '29, defenders, Kim, Eloise Ekstrand '29, Abby Hafer '27, Ellie Evan's '28, and midfielders Wilde, Demain, Maddie Humber '28, Lucy Mallgrave '28, and Gabby Smith '28. Excitedly, the whole team had their hand in the victory.

SPS takes on the Thayer Tiger's on the road at 5 pm on Wednesday, September 23.
