SPS hosted the Wildcats of KUA at Hunt field on a comfortable fall afternoon. KUA came into the game with a 4 – 0 – 1 record and the Big Red felt that their work rate could turn tide on the visitors. In the early going, both teams had chances in their opponent's box. It was the Big Red who would catch the first break. A long throw in from the right flank
Carter Corbett '25 found its way to the back part of the box where
Alexander de Burgh Codrington '28 struck a clean side volley into the net. The Big Red celebrated with jubilation. Over the next 35 minutes KUA were able to create several quality chances, two off the cross bar, but keeper
Leo Colinet '27 was strong with his saves and gave the Wildcats no second chances. The half would end with the Big Red up 1 – nil.
The second half saw the Wildcats play more through balls which were covered well by the SPS defense. They were more dangerous on the flanks and caught the Big Red on a counter midway through half. The resulting cross was finished by a nice header to make it a 1 – 1 game. KUA would take the lead eight minutes later as SPS failed to clear several balls and the mistakes cost them dearly. Down 2 – 1 the Big Red battled over the final twelve minutes. Will Iller '26 created space wide and served a dangerous ball. A pair of corner kicks by Pat Cooley '25 caused more pressure on the KUA defense. The Wildcats held on until the final whistle and took home a hard fought W.
SPS will waste no time before hopping on a bus Saturday and heading west to the home of the Big Green of Deerfield with 12 other SPS teams. A big day for the Big Red athletic program.
Go Big Red!
