SPS travelled to the sunny (and breezy) shores of Lake Winnipesauke for the final tilt of the season against the Brewster Bobcats. It was a game in which the Big Red was hoping to score early by playing on the front foot with the wind at their backs. The club did everything but the scoring part. Three minutes in, an
Alexander de Burgh Codrington '28 shot forced an early save. Moments later it was a
Blake Truchon '26 cross to a Will Iller '26 shot that made the keeper extend to his left for a brilliant stop. And so it would go with SPS keeping much of the possession, yet unable to get the quality strike they need to break the deadlock.
The Big Red knew they had to break through in the second half. Re-energized the squad pressed early. Within four minutes they had three corner kicks, but no goals. Truchon got through on the left flank for a good chance and was stopped. de Burgh Codrington got through the Brewster high line for a breakaway and was stymied by the BA keeper. As the Big Red pushed higher they became exposed at times at the back. Thankfully, SPS keeper
Kristof Lovegren was sharp in net. Several big saves, one at the top of the box and another long shot that was labeled for the top corner kept the score tied. With nineteen minutes to play Pat Ricca '26 played a quality through ball to Iller who finished cleanly and put the Big Red on top. SPS would secure the win ten minutes later when Randy Fu served a ball behind the Bobcat defense resulting in an own goal. 2 – 0 would be the final. All the members of the 2024 Big Red squad were involved in the team's final win. A string of winning four of the final five games has the team excited to get back together soon.
