It was a Friday night tilt under the lights as the Proctor Hornets came to town. The Big Red was excited to support each other and show their fans, families, and friends how far they have come this season. On the evening they did just that. The game began well for SPS. Randy Fu '25, Pat Cooley '25 and Wil Iller '26 got some shots off early.
Gavin Nestler '25 continued with several strong runs on the right flank.
Lucas Miller '25 played a beautiful ball thought to
Blake Truchon '26 on the left for a quality attack. Ryan Ham '26 added energy and speedy runs. Samson Nyguen '25 was intelligent on the ball and played quickly. The Hornets were strong throughout the pitch but the Big Red applied pressure on the ball and gave them little space to play, particularly backs
Carter Corbett '25,
Luka Clark '25 and Charlie Hepp '25. SPS got to second balls often and it made a difference in their play. Energy is contagious. In the final moments of the half the Big Red earned several more corners creating some half chances but could not find the back of the net.
The second half saw much of the same effort and commitment to hard, physical play. Miller hit a strong header off an Iller cross. In the back,
Kristof Lovegren '25 made several key saves as the half wore on. It was not until there were nine minutes to play when the Big Red would break through. Cooley played wide to Truchon who found space wide and served a dangerous ball into the box where Hepp shielded the ball well and was able to free up just enough space to get the space to drive the ball through a crowd and into the net. SPS would play tough to the end and close out the game with Cooley doing some nifty holding of the ball in the final seconds.
