The St. Paul's girls JV hockey team won their second game of the season beating the Andover Big Blue in a hard-fought battle Wednesday afternoon on Ingall's rink. The game began with back-and-forth action as both teams peppered the opposing goalie with multiple shots throughout the first period. Parker Neilson for the Big Red was fantastic on the day stopping a barrage of shots and holding Andover scoreless through most of the game. Both teams had their opportunities, but it was not till almost halfway through the second period that Emerson Bentley found the back of the net on a shot from the slot to give St. Paul's the lead, 1-0. A little over a minute later, Ali Cabot ripped a shot from the point to make it 2-0 in favor of the Pelicans. Andover continued to battle and scored one of their own to bring the game closer with a score of 2-1. That would be the only shot that would get past Parker on the day. Later in the second frame, Ali Cabot extended the lead with a bar down blast to make it 3-1. Emerson scored her second goal of the day on a nice break away to make it 4-1 with 90 seconds to go in the period. The Pelicans did not let up and a strong rush by Chandler Curtis followed up by a rebound score by Gracen Arndt gave the Big Red a 5-1 advantage over the Big Blue heading into the third and final period. Gracen would find the net one more time in the third period to put the game on ice as the match ended with a final score of 6-1. An all-around great team effort as the JV squad improves to 2-0 and looks ahead to a home match up with Pingree next Wednesday at home.
