The girls JV hockey team rounded out their perfect 16-0 season with a fun filled victory with countless laughs and a few tears as the remarkable career of 8 seniors came to a close on the ice of Ingalls rink. The girls took on a spirited Lawrence Academy Spartan team for a late Friday start and the girls wasted no time in putting the puck in the back of the net.
Gracen Arndt got the scoring going on a rebound from a
Marina Kane shot. Soon afterwards, Finlay Goring scored her first goal of the year followed by Char Ward who scored her first goal of the season as well (on an Ellie Evans assist) and the Pelicans were up 3-0.
Marina Kane scored next from a
Chandler Curtis pass and Allegra Caracappa had a wonderful drive and shot to score and put the Big Red up 5-0.
Meg Bohan would score with almost no time remaining in the first on a nice centering pass from
Emerson Bentley to close out period 1 with a comfortable lead. The second period began with some great laughs as both Lawrence Academy and St. Paul's recorded "goalie goals" as each goalie took turns skating the length of the ice to score a beautifully choregraphed flying "V" goal.
Parker Neilson scored her first goal ever (in goalie gear) for the Pelicans and the game was 6-1. Kay Sumilas would score her first goal of the season and this was followed by an
Allison Min tally. Bela Freidman was tenacious on the ice and after several missed shots was able to record her first goal of the season to take the team to 9-1. Allegra and Kitty Diamond would each add a goal in the third to finish the game. A heartfelt moment occurred at the end of the game as all 8 seniors took the ice and played against 8 Lawrence Academy players in the final minute. Kudos to the referee for not making the too many players on the ice call! A special thanks to our seniors for their effort, attitude, and dedication to make this season and the preceding three seasons such an amazing success. The girls JV hockey program will certainly miss Ali Cabot,
Emerson Bentley,
Parker Neilson,
Meg Bohan, Kitty Diamond, Nel Peter,
Caroline Frost, and
Marina Kane.
