SPS headed south again to play Deerfield Academy on a beautiful, sunny Wednesday, May 1, for its first matchup with the Western Massachusetts school.
Starting with doubles play, Liz Harder '25 and Poppy Duggal '25 at number one; co-captain Helen Berger '24 and Skylar Christoffersen'24 at number two; and Sophia Burdge '24 and Amelia Guest at number three all posted 5-8 in no-ad play.
In singles, Poppy Duggal '25 at number three had the lone win of the day, fighting back after losing the first set to take the match tiebreaker by a resounding margin and finish 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-2).
Harder at number one finished 3-6, 1-6 and Berger at number two went 1-6, 0-6 while Guest at four and Skylar Christoffersen '24 at six were shut out in matches whose ultimate scores don't reflect a number of deuce games and well-played points. In the number five position, co-captain Sophia Burdge '24 hung in there through a close first set before succumbing 4-6, 3-6.
