The girls junior varsity team finished in first place at the St. Paul's hockey jamboree this past weekend with two exciting wins over Dexter Southfield and New Hampton School. In the first game of the tournament the squad had a hard-fought battle with a talented Dexter Southfield squad.
Chandler Curtis scored first for the Big Red followed shortly afterwards by Callie Fortin who put one past the Dexter goalie to take a 2-0 lead. Dexter had multiple chances of their own and midway through the first scored to make it a 2-1 game.
Gracen Arndt scored a gritty goal late in the first to help extend the Big Red lead before the intermission and take the team into the break with a 3-1 advantage. Dexter would not go quietly, and
Parker Neilson was busy all day long between the pipes including some stops on penalty shots. In the second,
Marina Kane was able to find the back of the net to make it 4-1 and Ali Cabot went coast to coast and scored the final goal to end the game with a 5-1 victory. The win allowed the Pelicans to play in the championship game against the winner of the New Hampton versus KUA game.
